A Special The Help Event with Author Kathryn Stockett and Director Tate Taylor

Kathryn Stockett and Tate Taylor have been causing trouble since they first met in Jackson, Mississippi at age 5.  So when Kathryn was shopping her debut novel (and collecting over 60 rejection letters), Taylor was one of the few people she let read the manuscript.  Before Penguin acquired The Help, Taylor knew he wanted to option the book for film and by the time it was published in 2009, he had already written the screenplay.  Against all advice, Stockett sold him the film rights, knowing he was the best person for the job.

The Help became a literary sensation, sitting at the top of the New York Times bestseller list for over 100 weeks and counting, selling more than three million copies.  The film debuted this past August and immediately became one of the most buzzed about movies of the year.  The Los Angeles Times called it “the kind of comedy I thought Hollywood had forgotten how to do. You know, the kind that makes us laugh while going right to the heart of the matter, and comes as a blessed relief from the vapid raunch that has become the norm.”
