Monaghan inspires with her hopeful and moving stories, often sharing that she wrote her first hit novel at 50 years old.

It’s a Love Story, published in May 2025, was Monaghan’s first novel to become an instant New York Times bestseller, and with its release, she became a Library Reads Hall of Famer. The book follows Jane, a former adolescent TV actress-turned-producer, who is striving to gain respect in Hollywood. Adopting the mantra “fake it till you make it,” she soon realizes she may have faked it too far. Now, Jane’s forced to confront her past and spend a week with the last man she thinks might make her believe in love.

Monaghan’s highly-anticipated next novel, Dolly All The Time, is set to publish in May 2026. The story follows Dolly, a hardworking single mom who’s forced to return to her Rhode Island hometown. As she stumbles into a fake dating situationship with a wealthy, annoyingly handsome, workaholic scion, Dolly thinks: if they start by pretending, can they end with something real?

Monaghan’s books are favorites of booksellers, librarians, and readers worldwide, and her novels have been translated into 22 languages. Nora Goes Off Script was an Indie Next Pick, LibraryReads Pick, and Amazon Top 10 Best Books of the Month Pick for June 2022. It also garnered starred reviews from Publishers Weekly and Booklist, and was included in top media roundups in the Wall Street Journal, Southern Living, Country Living, and BookRiot. Same Time Next Summer was also an Indie Next Pick, and a national bestseller.

Monaghan has a BA in English from Duke University and an MBA in Finance from The Wharton School at The University of Pennsylvania. Her books have been covered in People, The Washington Post, USA Today, Real Simple, Woman’s World, Southern Living, and more. Praise for Dolly All the Time

I have fallen in love with Dolly. And with funny, fizzing Annabel Monaghan. And with love itself! This book is like a spicy margarita or a magic ice cream cone, the way it’s sweet and a little salty and tart and hot and just the tiniest bit bitter. And then also deeply, surprisingly nourishing. What an absolute treat is what I’m trying to say. I wish I could read it again for the first time. (Lucky, lucky you!).

Catherine Newman, New York Times bestselling author of Sandwich and Wreck

A fresh take on fake dating and a cheeky wink to Pretty Woman, this is a love story for the eldest daughters, who hold the weight of the world on their shoulders and just want to be held in return. My face hurt from smiling when I finished this book.
