About L. Y. Marlow
L. Y. Marlow is the third generation of her family to have been a victim and survivor of domestic violence: a violence that almost took her own life and the life of her unborn child. Her critically acclaimed and inspiring novel, Color Me Butterfly, was inspired by her own family’s struggles. In the book, L.Y. tells the poignant and evocative story of four generations of mothers and daughters haunted by a common specter of domestic abuse, as they discover the strength, hope, and courage to survive.
Marlow is the founder of Saving Promise, a national grassroots domestic violence awareness organization that was inspired by her granddaughter, Promise, whose life was threatened in a domestic violence dispute. With Saving Promise, Marlow hopes to finally put domestic violence awareness on the map in the same way that breast cancer awareness has been made a national priority. It is through her determination, vision and passion that she plans to raise the bar for domestic violence awareness by enlisting the support of all—from survivors and advocates to corporate executives and social leaders, to join arm-in-arm with her on her journey to end domestic violence.
Color Me Butterfly has won, been given honorable mention, or has been a finalist for eight book awards, including the National Best Books Award, the National Independent Publisher Book Award, and the Hollywood Book Festival Award.
L. Y. Marlow has appeared on local, regional, and national television and radio and has been featured in various magazines.
